James (J.R.) Burington, 73, died September 2, 2019 after a short illness.
J.R. is in the loving arms of his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Upon confessing his faith in Jesus, he was baptized June 13, 1982. He became a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren church, New Conference in Ripon, California where he attended regularly until returning to New York in 1999.
Jimmy is survived by his sisters Gloria (Willi) Kreuzer, Ginger (Ed) Denny, and April Burington; brother Robert Burington and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Gordon and Norma Burington.
J.R. was born in Watertown, NY and moved to Syracuse with his parents and sister when he was very young. He graduated from East Syracuse-Minoa in 1965 and attended SUNY Delhi where he studied equine management. Our brother had great passion for horses, books and country and bluegrass music. Hepursued all three throughout his life, beginning with artist and stage management in the country music industry in Ontario, Canada. While in Canada, he was also employed as a salesman with the Independent Order of Foresters and eventually relocated to their Modesto office in California. A few years later, J.R. shifted his salesman career to Woodman of the World. He achieved several honors and awards during his time in sales.
J.R. was an independent businessman. His fondness for horsesand skills in leather working led him to tack repair (J.R. Tack) both early and later in his life. He also opened a used book store called The 2nd Edition in California, which provided an outlet for his enthusiasm to collect both vintage and new books. Later, when he returned to New York he reopened the store in Chittenango.
A memorial service will be held on September 14, 2019 starting at 11:00am.
