Paul M. Wilson

June 14, 1941 ~ April 25, 2018 (age 76)

Paul Milford Wilson, of North Syracuse New York, died April 25, 2018.  He lived an amazing life, taking pleasure in the little things:  apple pie with a slice of cheddar, crossword puzzles, a Heid's coney, listening to a ball game on the radio, and whipping up a batch of his trademark Chex-mix. Paul was a phys-ed teacher at Cicero High School, later CNS, where he coached baseball and football. He was known to groom the baseball field in his spare time, getting it ready for his team. He was fond of the saying,  "There is no 'i' in ‘team'" until one of his players retorted,   "Yeah, but there is in ‘win.’”  “Coach" shelved that saying for a while after that. He was beloved by his students and athletes. Paul raised two fabulous daughters and they learned by his example to be kind, silly, open-hearted, fearless, and true. He shared his love of sports with them, took them to Chief's games, SU Hoops, and played catch in the yard. But also went to their color guard shows and theater productions. For such a sportsman, he loved playing house with his daughters and granddaughters and indulged in their tea parties. Paul was an excellent bowler and enjoyed patiently teaching his granddaughters the finer points. He loved spending time with family on Nantucket: dodging waves in the ocean, reading by an open window letting the sea breeze in, beating everyone at Ping Pong (or Gnip Gnop as he fondly called it), and giving his granddaughters red wagon rides. Paul was born June 14, 1941 and graduated from North Syracuse High School and Ithaca College. He is survived by Barbara Wilson, daughter Wendy Mills (married to Doug Mills), daughter Kate (Kathy) Wilson (married to Ciaran Byrne), granddaughters Ella and Mabel and sister Marjorie Mayer. There will be an informal gathering to celebrate Paul Wilson's life.  Please visit his Caring Bridge website for details.  And please share a story you have about  Coach!
